How to take care of your Truffaux Panama Hat
Store your hat in a cool area.
Avoid storing in direct sunlight, as it will dry out the straw (never leave it in the back of the car).
Using a hat box or hat stand will help preserve the shape of the brim, and/or store the hat upside down on it’s crown.
If your Panama is a rollable hat- Never store it rolled up. It will lose its shape and dry out.
When wearing it again
If you’ve stored your hat over the winter and it’s a little tight and dry, use a little steam. Hold your hat over a small pot of boiling water or tea kettle. The steam will soften the straw. Wearing your hat often will help maintain the proper size.
If your hat is a sturdier thick weave you can pack it in your suitcase. Set the hat upside down towards the top of your luggage and pack clothing around the crown, creating a “nest”. Pack smaller items (socks, shirts) in the crown to support the hat from the inside.
The best way to travel with your hat is to pack it in one of our beautiful hat boxes or wear it!
A little bit of soap on a damp (not too wet!) cloth is the best way to target dirty areas.
For a serious smudge using a WHITE plastic pencil eraser can remove marks.
Don't store in direct sunlight- Sunlight will dry out the straw.
Saturation- too rain or water will cause it to lose shape and shrink. If your hat does get wet, let it dry on your head so it doesn't shrink too much.
Pinching the crown with too much force when taking your hat on and off can cause cracking over time, so be gentle, love your hat.
In short: Don't let your hat get too dry or too wet. Wear it often!
