The Rose Traveller

Soft, Strong, and Made to Move

The Rose Traveller brings a softer, more romantic energy to our most versatile Panama hat. Woven by hand in Ecuador using traditional crochet techniques, it combines the rugged durability of the original Traveller with a gentle rose-pink hue that flatters and uplifts.

Its colour is subtle — never loud — and offers a beautiful alternative to neutrals. The dusty pink tones warm the complexion, particularly for fair or sensitive skin, and add a graceful point of difference that still pairs effortlessly with everyday outfits.

Whether exploring foreign cities, walking barefoot on warm stones, or spending a long afternoon under a jacaranda tree, the Rose Traveller is designed to come with you — to fold, unfold, and become part of your story.

✦ Key Features

  • Soft Rose-Toned Straw
Naturally dyed to a warm, flattering pink — gentle on the face, ideal for fair skin, and surprisingly versatile in styling. It pairs beautifully with whites, linens, greys, and deep blues.

  • Rollable & Ready to Travel
The flexible crochet crown can be rolled and packed without damaging the hat. It retains its shape when packed, making it ideal for travel or daily use.

  • Classic Shape with Feminine Grace
It is medium-brimmed (approx. 6.5–7cm), with a soft taper in the crown and a gentle snap to the brim, offering both sun protection and timeless proportion.

  • Lightweight & Breathable
Made from handwoven toquilla straw, the hat is lightweight, naturally breathable, and suited to warmer climates or long days outdoors.

  • Hand-Finished Fit
Each hat is finished by hand in our atelier to ensure fit, shape, and comfort. Custom sizing and ribbons are available if desired.

✦ Why It’s Loved

The Rose Traveller is for those who love quietly beautiful things — practical, yes, but with a softness that invites affection. It’s not flashy, but it always draws attention. People remember the hat, but more importantly, they remember how you looked in it.

It’s a favourite among travellers, creatives, and women who want something easy to wear that still makes them feel special.

✦ Ideal For:

  • Women and men wanting a softer, unique alternative to white or ivory hats

  • Sensitive or fair-skinned wearers looking for a flattering colour

  • Travel, leisure, and everyday wear with a romantic twist

  • Those who value both durability and grace in design

Before you decide

The rolling Panama hat is a myth.
Here's the truth.

I've made and sold Panama hats for twenty years. 150,000 of them. And I can tell you with complete certainty: rolling a Panama hat is a myth sold to travellers who deserve better.

If you like your hats wonky and broken, roll away. I have a better solution.

Why Panama hats fail — and how we fixed it

Every Panama hat has two weak points.
We fixed both.

Most Panamas are woven from brisa straw — beautiful, traditional, fragile. Pack one in a suitcase and the crown cracks. The brim, unsupported, sags and loses its shape. The hat that looked perfect in the shop arrives a disappointment.

The industry's answer is the rollable hat. It's the wrong answer. Rolling compresses the exact weave that makes a Panama worth owning. The tube and the box are props. The hat inside will let you down.

The crown

Crochet construction

Indestructible. The same architecture used in the most resilient straw hat tradition. Cannot crack under pressure. Returns to shape without effort. Still breathes like a genuine Panama — because it is one.

The brim

Wire reinforcement

Internal wire holds the brim true regardless of how it's packed. Overhead locker, suitcase, backpack. It arrives exactly as it left — shape intact, silhouette perfect, ready to wear off the plane.

The Diamond Traveller

Seventeen years of making it.
Then the stories came back.

I've been making crochet Panama hats for seventeen years. For a long time they were simply the most durable hat in our range. Then the stories started coming back.

Customers who'd taken them to places no Panama hat should survive. Long journeys. Hard conditions. Years of wear. The hat kept returning — shape intact, crown uncracked, brim holding true. While other Panamas were failing in overhead lockers, this one was crossing continents.

That's when I knew. This wasn't just a durable hat. It was the real answer to the problem every Panama traveller has — and nobody else in the world was offering it as one.

The Diamond Traveller is that hat. Named, positioned, and sold as the solution it always was.

Why Truffaux

The world's deepest Panama range.
One person behind all of it.

Truffaux has been fitting Panama hats for over twenty years — from our boutique in the Dandenong Ranges outside Melbourne, to customers across the US, UK, Europe and beyond. We've opened stores in Hawaii, New York, Tokyo and France. We know every hat in this category. We know what breaks and what lasts.

The Travellers collection exists because I looked at what the industry was selling to travellers and decided it wasn't good enough. I found the construction that solved both failure points. Nobody else was offering it as a dedicated travel category. I made it one.

★★★★★

"Many weeks into our travels and I can confirm it lives up to its name. The crown breathes, the hat stays put in the wind. Perfect for spring in the Albanian Alps. My wife wants one too."

"A YouTube search on how to travel with hats led me to Oska's shop. The hat handles the rigours of travel better than I thought it would, springing back from all manner of mis-treatment."

Nicholas Hand Japan & France · The Traveller

"My shopping experience with Oska was great starting with his videos, asking questions via email, and finally making a purchase. I chose the Diamond Traveller given its ability to stand up to travel. My wife says it looks good."
