Lola is Dead!
10 December 2009
Actually, not completely dead but in need of major surgery and electricals.
It was a dark and stormy night, seriously ........ and things were moving strangely. Im & Atticus were driving down Burwood Highway in Lola, feeling nervous when smoke started billowing from the steering wheel. She was really fucking freaked out ..... really, really. She jumped out and rang Oska who suggested killing the lights and opening the bonnet, so the flames would go up rather than through the car. Then she burst into flames, the fire brigade, all cheery smiles and backpats saved the day, filled her with quenching water and offered a nice comfy firetruck to recuperate in.
This is what she looked like in the afternoon, collecting photos of people in hats and loving life to the full:

And this is what she looked like later that evening - a burnt out husk of her former self - dirty, disheveled and awash by strange firemen :

For now, it is all too horrific to deal with, but maybe next year we will sort her out, fix the mess and get her on the road. The damage is pretty ugly and all that original loveliness is gone. Im feels like her time had come, but is still saddened by her newfound ugliness. I am thinking about a spritely 1950's Mercedes Benz as the new family car - just love the way they are put together. And after 3 Baby Austins, I have had enough of being very uncomfortable. She will be sadly missed........... Lola!
